The loan will be repaid with revenues from frozen Russian sovereign assets, United Kingdom Treasury Chancellor Rachel Reeves said. The agreement is part of the ongoing “support for the U.K. for the Ukrainian people, Reeves added, CNN reported.
Ukraine's Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, who participated in the meeting through a video connection, said Ukraine is “very grateful” for this very necessary “agreement. ”
The loan is an addition to continued financing of the United Kingdom of around $3.7 billion annually for Ukraine, Reeves said.
Reeves added she was surprised by “interparty support” for this agreement during her transition to Parliament.
“These money concerns helping to ensure Ukraine's territorial integrity,” said Reeves, adding that the funds also strengthen the “security and future of all Europe. ”
