What does Vuciqi's “Movement for the People and State” mean for Serbs from Kosovo?

The move was initiated by Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, and supported by the Serb List ʹ the largest Serbian party in Kosovo, which enjoys Belgrade's support.

Rassic, minister in the Government of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, says the current power in Serbia, so far, has “marked” all those who think differently, including Serbs from Kosovo, and that the new movement will not bring anything new.

For Kosovo's opposition politician, Milija Bisevac, forming the Movement for People and State is “a stick in the hands of President Aleksandar Vuciq”.

This is just an instrument to deceive people into thinking that they are starting a new history”, he says.

On March 23rd, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq held the first meeting of the initiative commission to establish the Movement for People and State, declaring that “is the time to unite all wisdom and patriotism”.

All over Serbia, on the other hand, protests are under way now four months.

Under student organisation, protesters call for responsibility for the deaths of 16 people from the collapse of a shelter at the Hekurudhor Station in Novi Sad on 1 November last year.

Authorities describe the protests as “colour revolution” and “attempts to overthrow the state”.

Serbian List: Movement for the People and the State Homes for All of us

“On behalf of the Kosovo Serb people and Metohija”, the Serbian List said it supports the foundation of the Movement for People and State.

The “Movement for the People and the State should be home to all of us who love Serbia and the shield that should protect the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija”, said a communique of the Serbian List.

This party, which was founded with the support of Vuciqi and Serbia's ruling Serbian Progressive Party, called on all the distinguished Serbian <x0patriots and citizens of Serbia to be part of the movement and to participate in shaping the future”.

“Serbs from Kosovo and Metohia, with their centuries-old experience in protecting Serbian names and surnames, welcome the foundation of the Movement for People and the State, convinced that this movement would give the best answer to all who want to see Serbia kneel upon”, the Serbian List communique said.

Serbian “List not to speak on behalf of Serbian people”

Rassic says the Serbian List cannot speak on behalf of all Serbian people in Kosovo. According to him, the result of the recent parliamentary elections in Kosovo, held on February 9th, also shows.

“No matter how irregular elections were in the sense that they [Serbian List] used different manipulation methods ] they should not forget that about 22 percent of voters voted against them, or for other political parties. Despite that, they [Serbian List] dare support Vuciqi on behalf of all Kosovo Serbs”, Rassic says.

Based on the results of the Kosovo Central Election Commission, the Serbian List won nine out of ten seats guaranteed for the Serb community in the Kosovo Assembly, while a parliamentary mandate won Rashiqi's party, writes. REL, broadcast Periscope.

Rassic does not believe a large number of Serbs from Kosovo will join the movement formed by Vuciq, but warns of “quality” possible to force individuals assigned to do so.

Bisevac believes that the Serbian List is “Archbishop in the hands of conductor Aleksandar Vuciq” and that the Movement for People and State “could not bring about any change”.

All of us are aware that the Serbian List is only implementing the official Belgrade policy. The Serbian list has never had authority in decision making, except it has heard everything told by Belgrade, as well as implemented a very bad policy for Kosovo Serbs and Metohija”, he says.

Bisevac emphasises that he and his Serbian People's Movement always support a <x0-authentic policy” for Serbs from Kosovo, in order to make decisions that would improve people's lives on the ground.

The Serbian list, he adds, will be “created” in the new Movement for People and the State, without getting involved in most Serbs from Kosovo.

The president announced that there will be new people, new experts. As far as I know, he has never invited people from Kosovo who don't think like the Serbian List in any conversation, let alone engage them in any form of political action. We do not see Belgrade as our enemy, but they, of course, are only looking for its instruments”, Bisevac says.

Serbian “List supports Vucicin”

Miodrag Marinkoviq, from nongovernmental organisation “Centre for Social Afirmation Action” in northern Kosovo, estimates that the Movement for People and the State has nothing to do with Kosovo and that the Serbian List has supported it only as the “political puppet”.

“They automatically support everything the chief does in Belgrade, and I am sure that this move has nothing to do with Kosovo. There are many questions: what does that movement offer, whom it unites, what is its purpose? The goal is perhaps clearer: survival of the current political regime in Belgrade and survival of political subjects that support this type of governance”, Marinkovic says.

He adds that the formation of the Movement for People and the State can also be seen as “response to the general rebellion of the people in Serbia”.

“Narrative used for this purpose is extremely populist. They call themselves the Movement for People and State, and we have people on the street”, Marinkovic says.

He also believes that this move will support those on whom power in Serbia “has control”, including the Serbian List.

“This is not a political stance, it is an act of loyalty by the Serbian List. She will do whatever Belgrade asks of her”, Marinkovic concludes.

What is known about the Movement for the People and the State?

The Movement for the People and the State is unknown.

For its establishment, Serbian President Vuciq warned about two years ago.

The movement's focus, as Vuciq said in some cases, should be Serbia's future.

The last time he spoke of establishing this move was in January this year, at a rally in Jagodina of the Serbian Progressive Party, whose founder is itself.
