European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen, during the meeting called by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, said Europe must strengthen its military and increase defence spending.
“It's about EU security and we have to, in the conditions we live in, prepare for the worst,” she emphasised, sending a message to the United States: “We are ready, along with you, to protect democracy”.
This statement by the president of the European Commission came after increasing tensions between the US and Europe, where in addition to the threat of increasing 25% tariffs for the old continent, Donald Trump began negotiations on closing the war in Ukraine directly with Russia, without including Europe or the country occupied in the talks.
And neither the United States nor Ukraine could find a common language.
We should put Ukraine in a position of force. This means that they can be strengthened and protected themselves. Basically, it's about making Ukraine a “yric steel” that is invincible to potential invaders”, von der Leenen added.
