Trump has often called the Department of Education useless and influenced by liberal ideology. However, the department's final removal will likely be impossible without action from Congress after the department was established in 1979 with an act of Congress, writes Reuters, report Periscope.

According to the White House, the order will lead Secretary Lindy McMahon to take all necessary steps to allow the closure of the Department of Education and the return of educational authority to countries, continuing to provide efficient and continuous delivery of services, programmes and benefits from which Americans depend.
