“I'm closed in 2011, I'm not mayor of Tirana”, Rama replied. He dismissed speculation about the changes following Erion Veliaj's arrest, stressing that there was no connection with them.
On the other hand, DP leader Sali Berisha reacted by accusing Rama of direct intervention in the dismissals and appointments in the municipality. He said Rama returned commander-in-chief Anula Ristani to dismiss Veliaj's men. “It is Edi Rama who has brutally intervened in dismissals and appointments in Tirana municipality. Despite being in the cell, Erion Veliaj remains mayor, and that fact is documented. What happened is a flagrant and unacceptable intervention in local power”, Berisha said.
