The closure of negotiations with the European Union within 2017 is one of the promises the country's Prime Minister Edi Rama is articulating in recent days as he presents candidates for the May 11th elections.
But his statements strengthened Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos from Slovenia today.
In an interview for Slovenian radio television, talking about European Commission priorities said that during its mandate there are two countries to complete negotiations, Montenegro and Albania, broadcast Periscope.
Two states from the Western Balkans are at the forefront of the EU membership process. Montenegro, which ranks at the top, with which negotiations could be concluded by the end of 2026. Albania is second and I believe it can cross the finish line to close negotiations at the end of 2027”, Kos says.
In this direction, Commissioner Kos said the final decision will be made by EU member states.
“I'm aware of the extraordinary importance of communication because I can't imagine that once all negotiations are concluded, a member state would say no, we don't want that country in the European Union, so I'm optimistic about both front states, Albania and Montenegro”, Kos adds. /euronews
