Kurti's attacks, the EU office reacts: Independence of judiciary and prosecutor is cornerstone of rule

The European Union's office in Kosovo has spoken about ignoring Kosovo's prime minister and VV head, Albin Kurti, is making the justice system in the country, failing to respond to any special prosecutor's call or Pristina Constitutional Court order to appear before the investigation in case of reservations. EU Office spokeswoman Ioanna Lachana has said that the independence of the judiciary and prosecutor is a cornerstone for a legal state and should be respected. The EU office says the judiciary and prosecution may be subject to public and political debate, but say criticism should be balanced, always with the aim of improving the system.
“The independence of the judiciary and prosecution is the cornerstone of the legal state and should be respected at all times. The judiciary and prosecution in a democratic system may be subject to public review and political debate. While there is reason to discuss improvements in Kosovo's justice system, all criticisms must be balanced, aimed at promoting accountability, integrity and efficiency of the justice system”, Lachana has told Gazeta Express.
