“With Kurtin Kosova can make progress” : Former American diplomat says opposition should make new government

Former head of the Office for Central and South Europe at the State Department, Jonathan Moore, during the Obama Administration has said Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti “was unsuccessful” not only for Kosovo, but also for relations with the US, and that with it, the new EU envoy for dialogue, Peter Sorensen, will find it very difficult to achieve progress in dialogue.

He says that “would be useful” for opposition parties to form a new government if they want progress for citizens.

He acknowledges that he hoped the opposition in Kosovo would get more votes and make a coalition.

“would be helpful to form a government with Republika Srpska List and have a new prime minister. I hope the opposition, if it wants progress for its citizens, of course even in the north, will form a coalition and follow a better policy towards Europe and America”, Moore said.

He emphasises that it is a positive thing that Sorensen will mediate in the dialogue, because it is very smart “”, but stresses that with Kurti it will be very difficult to achieve progress in dialogue.

“When it comes to relations between Kosovo and the US, this shows that no one in the US government can foresee a successful future for Kosovo with Kurtin”.

He thinks Richard Green, a man close to President Donald Trump who, as he says, has played and plays a very important role and has Trump's trust and respect, has repeatedly mentioned Kurti, with whom they are not in the best relationship.

Saying he cannot interfere with Kosovo's internal affairs, he adds: “if you want him as prime minister, you want to exclude a positive future for the predictable future”.

Asked whether he expects Sorensen and Washington to put pressure on eventually to form the Association of Serb majority municipalities, he responded that this was the main task and that it should be formed.

He believes some are misinterpreting that this could be a new Republika Srpska, because the jurisdiction of municipalities is something defined by the Constitution. It's about specific, local, foreign policy, but only education and health issues.
