This is Tehran's first official reaction following Donald Trump's letter to Iran's supreme religious leader, Ayatolah Ali Khamenei.
According to the Iranian president, Iran's response has been forwarded through Oman's Sultanate and leaves open the possibility of indirect talks with Washington.
However, as he explained, these efforts have brought no tangible results since 2018, when Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from the deal on Iran's nuclear programme.
The escalation amid regional instability
The situation has dramatically deteriorated in recent years, with a series of attacks on sea and land intensifying regional tensions. The conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip furtherforged Iran, as Israel targeted the main figures of the so-called “Consistence Box”, which Tehran supports.
At the same time, US air strikes against Iranian-backed shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen are reviving military action scenarios against the Iranian nuclear programme.
“We do not deviate from dialogue. What has caused us problems so far is breaking promises,” Pezheski said during a cabinet meeting, which was broadcast on television. “They must prove that they can gain our trust,” He added.
The American government has not officially commented on Iran's announcement.
