Lights of the Eiffel Tower, one of Paris's most ikeonic monuments, went out for an hour tonight as part of the annual event “Earth's clock, which is held every March to raise awareness of global warming, broadcast Periscope.
France joined the campaign, organised by the World Fund for Nature (WWF), turning off the Eiffel Tower lights in a symbolic gesture to highlight environmental issues, especially climate change.
Known as one of the largest environmental movements in the world since 2007, Earth's Ora aims this year to draw attention to the growing loss of natural ecosystems and the escalating climate crisis.
The initiative encourages individuals, businesses and governments worldwide to turn off lights not essential for an hour to promote sustainability and environmental actions.
