According to analysts in Serbia, there is no substantial progress in meeting to resolve or draw those that have emerged from previous agreements between Kosovo and Serbia, follows Periscope.
Peter Sorensen's first visit to Belgrade and Pristina as the new EU special envoy for dialogue occurs at a time when expectations of this process are extremely low. Even though he called for continued talks, analysts see no room for substantial progress.
“Senior new representative Kaya Kallas and new envoy Sorensen will try to keep the dialogue alive, but there is no room for great results, nor for the implementation of existing” agreements, Milos Pavkovovic of the European Policy Centre said.
According to analysts, dialogue is kept only under international pressure, while key issues remain unresolved. For political analyst Dusan Janjic, this process is now considered complete.
Kosovo has become a foreign policy issue for power in Belgrade. This is done deliberately, with the help of conflict management. Today, I can say, Kosovo is beyond history and is no longer subject to”, Dusan Janjic of the Forum for Ethnic Relations said. Besides the EU, US engagement is expected. Although Washington's focus is currently not in the Balkans.
The new American administration has not shown interest in dialogue. However, it is not excluded from later involvement, especially if the EU continues to lead this process in an uncertain way”, Pavkovic said.
Analysts estimate that after the new EU special envoy's first visits to dialogue in Belgrade and Pristina, this process continues to exist thanks to international pressure. As for Kosovo and Serbia, they consider that without political will it is difficult to expect any steady progress. / RTK
