Tried to cross border from Albania with over 223 thousand euros undeclared, 36-year-old arrested

Albania's police have arrested a 36-year-old resident in Italy after trying to extract over 223 thousand euros undeclared through the port of Durres from Albania.

During the operation, the young Albanian with initial M. D., after 223,200 undeclared euros were found in the backpack.

Meanwhile, the amount of money has been seized and 223 200 euros allegedly are the product of criminal activities.

Police announcement:

Port, Durres/Finalize police operation coded “Aseti”.

The alleged 223 euros of criminal activities are seized.

The 36-year-old resident in Italy, who tried to get the money out of Albania, without having declared it to the market.

As a result of detailed checks and verifications at Albania's entrance/outflows, with targets of preventing and hitting border crimes, Durres Port Border Police services, in co-operation with customs authorities, finalised operation “Aseti”.

Albanian national M. D., 36, resident in Italy, because it was found in his backpack, 223 200 euros that he was trying to extract from Albania, without being declared on pk.

The procedure materials were passed to the Durres Prosecutor, where investigations follow to determine the source of this money.
