In a statement, the Secret Service said that earlier Saturday, police have shared information on a person with suicidal tendencies who could be traveling to Washington, D.C., from Indiana.
About midnight, Secret Service members encountered the man's parked vehicle near 17th and F And they saw a person fit his description nearby.
“While the officers approached, the individual drew a firearm and followed an armed confrontation, during which our members opened fire”, the Secret Service said in a statement.
“The suspect was rushed to a local hospital and its state is unknown”.
There were no injuries from the Secret Service.
The Metropolitan Police Department will lead an investigation into the shooting, as they are the main agency responsible for the incidents involving the use of force within the Columbia District, the Secret Service said.
President Donald Trump was not in the White House at the time.
