US President Donald Trump said he has “of great respect” for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky prior to their meeting at the White House. He recently called it “dicator”.
When asked by the BBC if he would apologize for having recently called “dictator”, Trump replied he couldn't remember saying that. He also called it Zelensky “very brave”, broadcast Index.
Trump was speaking after a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for ending the war between Ukraine and Russia. He predicted a very good “appointment with Zelensky today, noting that peace efforts “are moving too fast”.
These meetings come after the Trump administration shocked Western allies by holding the first US-level talks with Moscow since Russia invaded Ukraine more than three years ago. The US president previously blamed Zelensky for the war and rebuked him for failing to initiate peace talks earlier.
“You have been there for three years,” he said last Tuesday.
“Should have finished... He shouldn't have even started. You could have reached an agreement,” he told Zelenski and Ukraine. But yesterday, after meeting with Starmer, Trump told reporters:
I think we'll have a very good appointment tomorrow morning. We're gonna be fine. ”
