Pope Francisescu, who has been hospitalised for more than two weeks and faces double pneumonia, has spent another quiet night and is now resting, the Vatican said on February 28th.
Francisco was admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital on February 14th and was initially told that he was suffering from bronkitis, but later realized that he had something more serious.
According to information published a day earlier on the pope's state of health, the Vatican said the state of the Holy Father “is continuing to show signs of improvement”, but his prognosis is continuing to be monitored due to the complex clinical situation.
In the past two years, Francescu has faced health problems. He is prone to have lung infections, since he had removed part of his lungs as a youth.
Double pneumonia is a serious infection of two lungs that can cause inflammation and make breathing difficult. The Vatican said that on Saturday Francis experienced an extended “respiratory crisis”, but such crises have not occurred since then.
Francisco, 88, is the leader of the Catholic Church since 2013. / REL/
