“President Zelensky will come Friday, this is now confirmed”, Trump said on Wednesday at the first meeting of his cabinet.
Today it became known that Ukraine has agreed to an agreement allowing the United States access to its natural resources, a major deal that comes amid numerous diplomatic efforts to end Russia's three-year full-time fight against Kiev.
The agreement, a copy of which Radio Free Europe has provided, does not address some key questions and leaves most details to be clarified through a future agreement.
It does not contain specific security guarantees from the US for Ukraine, a key request from Kiev. The agreement also does not specify whether the United States will continue supply of military equipment and ammunition to Ukraine.
The text of the agreement begins, stressing that Washington “has provided considerable financial and material support to Ukraine since Russia's full invasion of”.
However, Washington's earlier request for the right of over $500 billion possible revenue from access to Ukrainian mineral assets is not mentioned, which was included in an earlier draft agreement.
That was a point that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had repeatedly described as unacceptable.
