The trial of the man allegedly stabbed British-indicted author Salman Rushdie several times in 2022, leaving him blind in one eye, begins Monday in northern New York.
Hadi Matar, a 27-year-old from New Jersey, is facing charges of attempted murder and assault. He's been declared innocent.
The attack, which was captured in the video, took place at the Chattuqua Historical Institute in northwest New York, where Rushdie would give a lecture, reports the BBC, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
The trial, in nearby Mayville, will be decided by a jury that will hear several witnesses, including Rushdie himself.
