So far, according to police, one person has lost his life and two police officers have been injured.
Police are collecting evidence at Mulhouse, located only a few miles from the German border.
The author seriously injured two policemen, one in the neck and one in the chest. A passerby tried to interfere and was killed.
The suspect is a 37-year-old Algerian who had received a deportation order because he was on the terrorist watch list, according to the local prosecutor.
The prosecutor has opened a terrorist investigation because the suspect reportedly shouted “Allah Akbar”.
