What after the U.S. tariffs were imposed on Canada, Mexico and China?

US President Donald Trump has imposed new punitive fees on Mexico, Canada and China, which have paved the way for commercial tension with the three biggest trade partners in the United States. Trump has confirmed his long promised economic policy on the evening of February 1st, saying Washington will hit Canada and Mexico at a price of 25 percent in all goods, although Canadian energy imports will face 10 per cent rates.

He has said he is setting tariffs until the influx of migrants and the circulation of illegal fernal in the United States is being discussed in some respects, and factors are believed to be numerous.

New measures include 10 percent in goods from China.

The tariffs on goods in the three countries will take effect on February 4th.

These measures are at risk of promoting a trade war that could significantly damage economies of targeted states, but also of the United States, especially the fact that Canada, Mexico and China have pledged countermass.

The executive order presented by Trump includes another point that allows the president to expand tariffs, if a state imposes countermass on the US.

Mexico's president, Claudia Shanebaum, has said that her state will set tariffs on the US, while Canada's prime minister, Justin Truedeau, has warned revenge measures <x0 with wide range of”.

China's Economy Ministry has issued a statement saying Beijing will file charges against the United States in the World Trade Organisation, and will take countermass, but without providing more details.

Canada, Mexico, and China Answer

The goods of the three countries Trump has imposed on the fee have made up 40 percent of US imports last year.

In her TV response, Shanebaum has said she has instructed the economy minister to respond with a series of measures, including potential fees of 25 percent in American products.

It has called “allegations” suggestions that the government of Mexico has alliances with criminal organizations, and that Washington has to do more to stop the flow of illegal weapons to Mexico used by cartels.

The Mexican president has said it is open to finding a solution with the United States, adding that “problems are not solved by setting tariffs, but by negotiating”.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that his country will respond to a 25 percent tariff in American goods worth 155 billion dollars, and that they will be implemented through several stages in the coming weeks.

At a news conference, Trudeau has said that other measures for critical minerals are being considered, as well as procurements from the United States, without providing more details.

We don't want to face this, we haven't asked for this”, Trudeau said. But we will not back down from Canadian protection”.

He has also talked about Trump's statements that the border between the US and Canada is a security concern, saying less than 1 per cent of the phantanoli enters the US via the northern border.

Trudeau has called on Canadians to buy subx0> fewer American products, select Canadian products and Canadian services, instead of American”.

The Canadian prime minister has opened the door for further discussions with Washington, saying Canada is willing to invest about $1 billion in border security to avoid tariffs.

The 10 per cent fee in China's goods is additional over the tariffs imposed by the former US president, Joe Biden, and Trump, in the first term.

Beijing has pledged to take measures to protect Chinese interests. China's Foreign Ministry has also talked about the phantanoli, saying strict restrictions for export have exist since 2019.

What happens now?

The tariffs can increase prices for consumers, disrupt the supply chain, and influence reductions in jobs in certain sectors.

Canada, Mexico and the United States have a deeply integrated economy, as goods worth $2 billion pass through border points on daily basis.

Many economists believe tariffs and revenge measures can increase prices for many products and increase inflation. That's because importers, not goods export countries, are forced to pay the fee, and they usually carry this increase to consumers, increasing prices of products.

On January 31st, Trump acknowledged that there may be “temporary market disorder” due to tariffs, but has defended politics, saying that “tarifs will make us very rich and powerful dealt with other states fairly”.

A report released in January by the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the Washington-based institute, has been suggested that tariffs would reduce economic growth and increase inflation, and that measures would harm the economies of Canada, China, Mexico and the United States.

Others have applauded Trump's measures.

Conventioner Jason Smith, republican from Missouri ʹ member of a tax - related committee, and government expenses have supported the measure.

“Tarifat in imports from Canada, Mexico and China send a powerful message that the United States will not stay in the country until other nations fail to stop the flow of illegal drugs and immigrants towards our country”, he has said through a statement.

These measures will bring the U.S. government into billion values”. /Radio Europe Free
