Kosovo's Specialised Chambers, headquartered in The Hague, have convicted and condemned Haxhi Shala, Sabit Januzim and Ismet Bahtijarim, over charges involving obstruction of justice.
So the court agreed to the plea agreement that the accused arrived earlier with the Special Prosecution.
The latter through a media communiqué has called the precedent the historical “”.
Specialised prosecutor Kimberly West has welcomed the guilty plea from the three accused in the Januzi Sabit case and others such as “Historical “” and “of critical importance for protection of the integrity of” procedures in Kosovo Specialised Chambers (DHSK), said in the communique.
Both Haxhi Shala and Sabit Januzi and Ismet Bahitari approved special arrangements for admitting guilt with the Special Prosecutor's Office (ZPS) that they were involved in intimidation of witnesses and obstruction.
LAST LAST LATER: Haxhi Shala is sentenced to three years in prison by the Special Court
Charges against the accused had been filed for intimidation during criminal proceedings and obstruction of official persons in carrying out official duties.
“The guilty plea agreements are historical precedents for the fact that they represent the first case when the accused in DHSK voluntarily accept their guilt”, the specialised prosecutor said.
This development is of critical importance for protecting the integrity of procedures in the DHSK, as well as a step forward for the administration of justice in Kosovo”.
My office is committed to the unhindered establishment of justice, based on the facts and law”, West said.
“The SPS has investigated crimes against administration of justice in order to ensure that witnesses can testify in court over crimes they have witnessed or suffered without fear of intimidation or revenge”.
“These investigations have been a key factor in the progress of all other criminal prosecutions and will continue to be a central part of the work of SPS”.
