Spanish ministers have agreed on Tuesday to cut the work week to 37.5 hours without a change in wages, despite opposition from employers' associations.
During his weekly meeting Tuesday, the cabinet has approved the reduction -- from 40 hours currently to 37.5 -- in the executive decree of Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz, Reuters reports.
This proposal is about living better, working less, and being much more productive and more economically efficient”, Diaz told reporters.
The move has yet to be adopted in parliament, where the centre-left government led by Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez lacks the majority and depends on balancing the demands of several smaller parties to adopt the legislation.
Diaz, who is also deputy prime minister, made the plan to reduce working hours by the end of 2025.
But the Catalan separatist centre-right Junts party has already signalled resistance to the proposal. /Time.net/
