Selimi: I knew Syla was a general commander KLA

Sylejman Selimi, during his testimony at The Hague, said he did not know that Azem Syla was commander-in-chief of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK). While, he said he is aware that Jakup Krasniqi and Sokol Basota were appointed deputy commanders. “I didn't know Azem Syla was Commander General”, Sylejman said. [...]
“I didn't know Azem Syla was commander-in-chief”, Sylejman Selimi said, after an article from an international media talking about Syla was released, reports “Justice bet“.
Hashim Thaci's lawyer, Luka Misetiq, asked the witness how it is that the internationals knew Azem Syla was commander-in-chief. The KLA, while it itself was commander of the Drenica Zone, had no knowledge.
I have no comment. I don't know. Not only me but also many zone commanders since the meeting we have had, that Azem Syla is commander-in-chief”, Selimi said.
Later, Selimi received a document from a meeting allegedly held on February 6, 1999. This document was the processor of that meeting for which the Prosecutor's Office Specialised According to Misethic has said it has been seized from Rexhep Selim's house.
Misetic indicated that according to the document, at this meeting, the commanders of operational zones such as Ramush Haradinaj, Rrustem Mustafa-Remi, Ekrem Rexha and Syla were in attendance.
While as representatives of the General Staff, the document showed, according to Misethics, who were Rexhep Selimi and Bislim Office.
“Data does not know correctly, but I do not remember such a meeting”, Selimi said.
According to Misetic, the document said the person named Syla had said the appointments made by the General Staff are particularly disturbing for Sokol Bashata's appointment and Jakup Krasniqi as deputy commanders.
He had also said that Sokol Basota is not suitable for this country and that the General Staff has ignored the demands that the area commanders have made to the issue.
While, for Jakup Krasniqi, Syla had said she is not the right person for the deputy commanders, and that for appointments in Staff they should consult. This person had even said that those who took up arms to fight are not being taken into account.
As a result, Misethic asked to inform who was identified as Syla at this meeting and whether he was the witness.
The first “, the name and the nickname. However, this scripture and meeting I do not know when and how it was kept. I don't remember”, Selimi said.
Likewise, Misetiq reiterated that according to the report, Syla has said that Sokol Basota and Jakup Krasniqi do not deserve the role of deputy commander.
It's true that for Jakup and Sokoli we knew there were two deputy commanders”, Sylejman Selimi said.
To be deputy, Misethic said he should have commanders as well. By that, the witness agreed.
“Sic is understanding your testimony, you're saying that as meeting participants you knew there was a key command but that didn't know it was Azem Syla”, Misethic told the witness.
Prosecutor Matt Halling rejected the question, saying Misetic is distorting the witness's statement.
However, the chairman of the court, Charles Smith III, said that this was really what the witness was saying.
We asked questions, at least I wasn't told. This meeting I don't know when it happened and there's no record that was held. There was a writing on who kept Rex or who. I was never told that General Commander Azem Syla”, Selimi replied.
The Witness again denied to recall the meeting.
I know they were deputy commanders and I don't know there was a general commander. I know that Azem Syla was known as the person I knew, but I always thought she was in the Logistics”, Selimi said.
Afterward, Misethic asked the witness how it was possible for the organisation to have deputy commanders and not know who the commander was.
“From a organizational point of view, there are many insensibles even in the General Staff itself, since not many functions and tasks have been known what they have... no warrant, no duty by the commander at this time, and it is not known who is my commander of the Drenica Zone”, Selimi said.
However, the witness agrees that for better organisation, commanders of the area for appointment at the General Staff should also be consulted.
Because district commanders have had responsibility on the ground. It has been important for the development and further body of its KLA and General Staff structure in particular”, Sylejman Selimi said.
At a similar meeting, according to Misetic, Sami Lushtaku said that Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini and Rexhep Selimi are responsible for the situation they were in terms of the General Staff leadership.
For this, Sylejman Selimi said everyone could give their opinion even to Rexhep Selimi as the witness's family.
On the other hand, in the spring of 1998 one of the people he knew, the witness claimed it was Hashim Thaci. However, Selimi denied knowing his role in the General Staff, but thought he was a political representative there.
The Witness said that he remembers that only Bislem the Office has issued orders to him from the General Staff, not any other person.
At another meeting, Misetic said that according to the document, Ramush Haradinaj had proposed that Sylejman Selimi be the commander-in-chief. KLA.
“Se di ai (Ramush Haradinaj) or Samia ( Sami Lushtaku has suggested that I be commander-in-chief”, the witness said.
Witness Selimi denied that there were brigades named “Hasan Pristina” in Drenica. When asked if the LDK had any problems in this area with the KLA, the witness said he cannot remember.
“There has been no clarifications about the first meeting in Rambouillet at the Rambouillet conference”, he said, when asked whether it is true that as the area commander had dissatisfaction with this conference.
The witness confirmed that his position on this conference was that the negotiating point should lead to Kosovo's independence.
Otherwise, in part of the session, the parties went on vacation due to technical problems with the transcript. On the other hand, the session has repeatedly had technical problems with transmission.
