At an online meeting organised by the Central Election Commission (KQZ) with Kosovo diplomatic representatives in the world, Ambassador Berisha himself has openly confirmed that it has intervened in the diaspora vote management process, reports Infocus.
According to Infocus' reliable sources that have participated in this meeting, Berisha has declared that he has personally withdrawn all envelopes with votes from the post and handed them over to the Kosovo Embassy in Croatia, where he heads the diplomatic mission.
This public acceptance has raised alarms on those present, especially on CEC representatives, who are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the election process. Two independent sources, which were part of this meeting, have confirmed the scandal, adding that the ambassador's move constitutes a serious violation of election procedures and a major risk of manipulation of votes.
The Central Election Commission has earlier raised concern about the possibility of manipulations with diaspora votes. For this reason, the CEC has organised additional training with diplomatic staff to provide clear guidelines on managing the voting process abroad.
Under these efforts, the CEC has also held its latest online meeting with ambassadors and other diplomatic staff, where the importance of respecting procedures has been discussed. However, Ambassador Berisha's accession has directly intervened in the vote management has raised major doubts about the prosperity of the process and has questioned the diaspora vote's credibility.
The scandal has raised a series of questions on the legality of the ambassadors' actions.
While in terms of numerous reactions that there may be abuses during the delivery of materials for diaspora votes three days earlier, the CEC had reacted.
In clarification The CEC has stressed that carrying materials from the post will be done through land routes by CEC officials with ministry assistance at the helm with Donika Gervalen.
After concerns raised in public about transporting election materials, including ballot packages from outside Kosovo, the Central Election Commission deems it necessary to provide the following clarifications: The withdrawal of postal shipments from the Central Election Commission's postal boxes, as well as the delivery of election materials to diplomatic representation, will be done through land routes by CEC officials, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspore. The latter has provided transport vehicles, which will be run by its officials. So far, in some cases, the CEC has withdrawn the ballot packages, which have been sent temporarily to stay on different diplomatic representations, respectively, in their security rooms, where they are constantly monitored by cameras”, it is said in the CEC clarification.
We remember that Ambassador Martin Berisha has been involved in several energy scandals related to energy trade. Regarding the latter, Berisha is being investigated by the Kosovo Special Prosecutor.
