The day before, US President Trump encouraged numerous reactions when he proposed, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah, for the United States to take control of war-torn Gaza.
The Trump idea “was not meant as hostile. It was thought, I think, as a very generous move, an offer to rebuild and be at the helm of reconstruction”, Rubio told reporters during a visit to Guatemala.
Trump offered a US <x0) preparedness to intervene, clear the ruins, clear the area of all destruction on the ground, to clear it of all unbroken ammunition”, Ruby said.
And, during this time, people living there will not be able to live there as the working teams enter and remove the remains”, he added.
Rubio said Trump wants to support “the reconstruction of homes, businesses and things of this nature, so that people can then return”.
A day earlier, Trump introduced the plan, under which displaced Palestinians would leave the Gaza Strip, paving the way for the U.S. to take over this coastal territory and develop it economically in a place “phenonal”, where various nationalities can live in peace.
Trump said this would happen after the Palestinian people moved to other countries, to get away from what he called the <x0-drafted hell” with buildings destroyed, after more than a year of war between Israel and Hamas, which the US and the European Union have declared a terrorist organisation.
His proposal for the shift of Palestinians from Gaza had prompted objections from both opponents and US allies.
The proposal had sparked concerns that the fragile ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas ? The declared terrorist organisation by the US and the EU, which has led Gaza since 2007.
UN leaders, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International organisations, as well as leaders of France, Germany, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, China and Russia, had publicly criticised the plan.
An assessment of the damage done by the United Nations released this month showed that cleaning up over 50 million tons of remains as a result of Israel's bombing could last 21 years. /Radio Europe Free
