President Voldymyr Zelensky said the US proposal for a key mineral agreement is unfair because it does not include security guarantees and that he does not want Ukraine to become a centre for raw materials.
Last week, Kiev sent Washington a revised draft of an agreement that could open its major sources of key minerals for American investments to help win American support.
This document is not ready; we will not sign this. Keep working on this document”, Zelensky said.
I'm always open to your investment in our country, our natural resources... But if we want to give something, we have to take something from”, he was quoted as saying.
“We do not want to become a centre of raw materials for any continent”, he said.
Zelensky outlined the draft agreement in an interview with Reuters this month. Minerals in question will include rare land metals, as well as titanium, uranium and lithium, among other things.
