Prosecutor: We stopped 8 people for criminal acts against voting rights

Pristina, February 9th 2025 As we have informed you earlier of the elections for the Republic of Kosovo Assembly, which were held today in our country, the State Prosecutor has made all necessary preparations to realise the protection of the vote. About 100 prosecutors and the sufficient number of prosecutorial system personnel have worked and are still working in order to manage the election process.
During today the State Attorney has accepted some information, and after their verification until the end of the voting process, four cases have been opened against eight people, while other information is being addressed.
Of them:
• The Constitutional Prosecutor in Mitrovica, following information received by citizens, has initiated two different cases linking with criminal acts against voting rights.
In the first case, four people have been detained, due to suspicion given that the same by their actions have committed criminal acts: “Conning the free definition of voters”, by Article 210 of the Republic of Kosovo Criminal Code.
Meanwhile, in the second case, one person has been detained, due to suspicion given that the same by his actions has committed the same criminal act: “Consumption of the free definition of voters”, by Article 210 of the Republic of Kosovo's Criminal Code.
• The Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina has initiated two different cases linking with criminal acts against voting rights.
In the first case, a person has been detained because of suspicion based that the same by his actions has committed criminal work: “Attack the official person”, from Article 402 of the Penal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
Meanwhile, in the second case, two people have been detained, due to suspicion given that the same by their actions have committed criminal work: “Prohibing the exercise of the right to vote”, from Article 209 of the Republic of Kosovo's Criminal Code.
State prosecutors will continue to care for the vote counting at the polls until sending them to municipal centres.
In this case the State Prosecutor thanks citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, media and civil society for the co-operation shown with the State Prosecutor with the aim of preventing and pursuing successful criminal acts in connection with these elections.
