Nome's Department of Volunteers said on Facebook that he was doing active land research by Nome and White Mountain, but was limited to air research due to poor weather conditions and visibility.
The Coast Guard and the American Air Force have committed themselves to assisting, with flights designed to analyse the area and try to find the lost plane, the department said.
