An unknown disease has caused the death of 50 people in the northwest part of Congo, according to doctors on the ground, as well as reports made Monday by the World Health Organization.
The time range between showing the first symptoms and dying was 48 hours in most cases and “This is very disturbing”, said regional hospital director Bikorou, Serge Dulabato, newspaper Tema reported.
The mysterious disease appeared on January 21st in the Democratic Republic of Congo recording 419 cases, of which 53 people have lost their lives.
According to O office BSH for Africa, the first outbreak of the disease was recorded in the town of Boloko after three children, who had eaten a bat, died within 48 hours of symptoms of bleeding fever.
For a long time, there have been concerns about carrying animal disease to humans in places where humans feed on wild animals. The number of such diseases in Africa has increased to over 60 percent over the past decade, according to WHO data 2022.
After the second outbreak of this mysterious disease in the town of Bomathe on February 9th, samples of 13 cases were sent for laboratory tests at the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo.
All the samples showed that it was not an Ebola disease or other diseases associated with symptoms of bleeding fevers, such as Marburg disease. But some tests proved positive for possible malaria infection. / newspaper Tema
