It becomes known that Heusgen was cautious about reports that talks were planned in Munich between senior US and Russian representatives.
“No Russian government representative has been accredited”, Heusgen told Deutschlandfunk.
This statement comes after the US president had confirmed that the first talks between the US and representatives of Russia and Ukraine would be held in Munich.
While Ukrainian presidential adviser Lytwyn said talks with the Russian side were not planned in Munich.
Otherwise, in regard to a possible withdrawal of American troops, Heusgen said that “now was Europe's time”, the Telegrafi conveys.
It is reported that apart from the US vice president, JD Vance, of the 61st Security Conference, is expected to include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Germany and other EU states are demanding that the European Union be included in the peace negotiations in Ukraine.
As a result of the American government's new policy for Ukraine, the Munich Security Conference is changing speaker order.
Unlike earlier plans, after German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, it will not be Vance who wants to speak, but EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
For a substantial change in US strategy towards Europe, CDU foreign policy expert Norbert Rötgen also spoke.
President Trump had held a telephone conversation with Russian President Putin without any co-ordination with Allies”, Rötgen said.
“Basically, European security is no longer an important issue for the American government”, he added.
Among other things, the expert expressed doubts about Putin's desire for a fair peace for Ukraine.
He also urged Europeans to soon become Ukraine's most important security partner for their interests and to provide funds for the purchase of additional weapons and ammunition.
