CACTTUS has said challenges arose from unprecedented volume in traffic on the CEC website, which had overloaded existing app configuration “CloudFlare”.
“This failure to configure the CuludFlare app (the application whose application and management is in the responsibility of ASHI/CECZ, and it is not and it has not been in responsibility or competence of CACTTUS sh.a.) resulted in a blockade outside direct control of our application”, CACTTUS said.
It also reported that the CEC website, along with other government infrastructure, has been the target of continued cyber attacks both during the day of choice and today.
“We also want to highlight the fact that the CEC website, along with the other government infrastructure, has been the target of ongoing cyber attacks, as during election day, as well as continuing today. According to our experts' analysis (in photo), these attacks include DdoS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service Attack). This kind of attack. ( DDoS is a kind of cyberattack meant to cut off normal internet server, service or network target (in this case CEC and A SHI) overloading it with a flood of internet traffic. Basically, it's like a major traffic jam on a digital highway, preventing legitimate users from reaching their destination. While the voting app itself remained secure and functional, these attacks have presented an additional challenge for maintaining the continued availability of the website. We are actively co-operating with the Kosovo Election Commission, justice bodies and relevant government agencies to ease these attacks and protect the integrity of the system”, CACTTUS said.
