Washington is the UN's largest financial contributor, followed by China, which represents 22% of the UN's basic budget and 27% of the budget for peacekeeping operations. The UN has said that the United States currently has a financial obligation of $2.8 billion, of which $1.5 billion is for the regular budget. These payments are not voluntary. /Reuters
