According to Trump, the United States will take control of the Gaza Belt and turn it into a “Middle Eastern Riterries” a country full of opportunities and jobs, populated by people from around the world, including some Palestinians.
But most of those who have lived there for more than seven decades will be gone forever.
Trump says his ideas have broad support, but there is no sign of that in the Middle East. Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have condemned these proposals.
The president also gave an ominous signal for the future of another Palestinian territory, the West Coast.
Trump said he is thinking of supporting the idea of Israeli sovereignty there and making an announcement within the next four weeks.
He added that this has nothing to do with the prospect of a solution with two states.
Is any of these serious proposals? With Trump, it's hard to say.
But he overturned decades of American politics in the Middle East during his first mandate and seems ready to do it again, writes BBC) diplomatic correspondent Paul Adams.
