Journalist Shzen Dajaj has reacted after warnings that the electricity price is expected to close 30%.
Dajaj via a post on his Facebook profile has shown that these costs citizens will pay for the misuse and mismanagement at KEK.
“One of the biggest and most important projects for improving energy infrastructure in Kosovo, investment 76m euros for changing electrofils and the DeNOx system in Kosovo B, has failed. This project was signed in 2020, with the plan for the work to begin in the B1 block in 2020 and in the B2 block in 2021, but was not implemented”, Dajaj wrote.
According to him, the damage caused by the failure of this project are: The loss of the EU donation that had a 76m-euro share, power capacity damage, loss of access to power plant life, loss of KEK funds, further reduction of capacities.

The consequences of mismanagement and misuse at KEK are multi-million.
Citizens will pay this cost, perhaps with a price hike of up to 35%.
One of the biggest and most important projects for improving energy infrastructure in Kosovo -- the 76m-euro investment for the exchange of electrofils and the DNOx system in Kosovo B -- has failed. This project was signed in 2020, with plans to start in the B1 block in 2020 and in the B2 block in 2021, but failed.
The damage caused by this failure
1. EU donation loss
The European Union had allocated 76m euros for the project, aimed at reducing pollution and improving air quality. Electronics and Systems DeNOx would have helped reduce toxic dust considered cancerogenic for the area around the thermal power plant. Failure to implement the project has caused these funds to be lost and pollution to continue.
2. Energy Harm
In addition to changing electrofils, KEK had planned that during the entity stoppages, it would carry out revising vital equipment, such as turbines, furnaces and assistance systems. That would have allowed extra 60 megawatts of energy 30 MW for each block, but since the project failed, this growth did not happen.
3. Loss of the opportunity to increase the life of the power plant.
In addition to increasing capacities and reducing pollution, this project would increase Kosovo's life expectancy B for 25 years, but that opportunity was lost.
4. KEK funds loss
Although investments were not realised, KEK has spent 52m euros on these projects. This money is used without fulfilling planned goals.
5. Further Reducing of Capacity
Due to problems with heating pumps in the B2 unit, since September 2024, Kosovo B is producing 40MW less energy, further exacerbating the energy situation.
This is a major failure for Kosovo's energy sector, which has caused financial, energy and environmental losses, while citizens are bearing its burden.
