During his statement to the media, Healey stopped and conflict in Ukraine and the possibility of reaching the peace agreement.
This war started because Russia invaded the territory of a sovereign state. The war could end today if President Putin withdraws his troops from Ukraine,” he said.
Haley also reacted to US President Donald Trump's recent statements, which named Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky as a “dictator”. Haley rejected that stance, viewing Zelensky as a legitimate and democratic elected leader by his people.
Vice President Zelensky is Ukraine's elected leader and has shown extraordinary commitment to his country,”, he said.
Haley compared the situation in Ukraine to the period of World War II in Britain, stressing that “like Winston Churchill, Zelensky has suspended elections due to the state of war. ”
Speaking of continued Western support for Ukraine, he said Allies must remain united.
Our “task is to support Ukraine in its war and, if they choose to negotiate, to support them in that process,” said Healey.
In conclusion, he underlined that even for the US it is vital to achieve lasting peace.
It is in the interest of President Trump and America for the conflict to end with a fair and lasting peace,” he concluded. /euronews
