Azem for Kurti government: For four years, they were able to produce no more electric megawatts

The member of the Democratic League of Kosovo leadership, Wisar Azemi, has addressed the Kosovo crisis with electricity. While appearing in “Debat Plus”, he explained that the main reason for costing energy remains the lack of local production, which obliges Kosovo to import energy at high costs from international markets. Lack of production [...]
The lack of production and high cost trade, according to him, puts Kosovo ahead of two possibilities: either to stop importing energy due to high prices, or to pay the difference through tariffs set by the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE).
The local S.H.I.E.B.E. project reaches the demand that domestic consumers have and, therefore, owe you to import electricity at very high costs. So suppose, in Kosovo, the production of electricity from current thermal power plants is about 30 euros for megawatts, while in international borsas, where we trade electricity, it's much higher. Let's get the Hungarian Power Baza and see that last year the average electricity price traded there has been 100 euros for megawatts.
What, though, happens? We do the nominations for energy trading the day before, and they are separated hour after hour. In 2024, the prize at one hour's time at Hungary's International Berza has amounted to 999 euros. So we're seeing that the price is dramatically higher than that of our domestic production.
And so, we're bound to either stop electricity and import because of the price, or, when we import, we have to pay this difference because of the maximum revenues approved by the Energy Regulatory Office. These define electricity tariffs and, somewhere, we need to cover that section.” he said.
He criticised the government led by Albin Kurti, accusing him of lack of investments in production capacities.
So the problem is we don't produce enough electricity to provide consumers in the country. And this has been a mess that I've had with Kurti government, because for four years they haven't been able to record any new power generation megawatts. ” said Azem.
