Victory for Ukraine on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion after the United States failed to convince the UN General Assembly to adopt its resolution seeking the end of the war, not to mention Moscow's aggression, and the assembly adopted a Ukrainian resolution, demanding that Russia withdraw immediately from Ukraine.
But this vote also showed a reduced support for Ukraine, whose resolution passed 93-18, with 65 abstentions. These figures are lower than the previous ones, where more than 140 voted in favour of condemning Russian aggression.
The United States tried to pressure Ukrainians to withdraw their resolution, according to an American official and a European diplomat who sought to remain anonymous because the talks were private.
They rejected the American resolution and then the assembly made it clear that Russia invaded its smaller neighbour in opposition to the UN Charter.
