The new entry system in the Schengen area, which has started implementing only a week ago, is already causing serious problems for travellers.
Even though it is still in its initial phase, only at Brussels Airport in the past week have it reported waiting in line that has lasted up to three hours.
This system aims to replace the sealing of passports with electronic data registration, and applies only to travellers who do not have European Union citizenship. Their identification is made through fingerprints and facial photographs.
In later entrances, travelers will be required only a quick verification, as their data will be stored in the system.
Currently, according to the Kosovo public broadcaster, the system is being implemented in a limited manner and for several hours at certain border points, within a period of six months' transition. After the end of this period, it is expected to be fully operational at all border points in the Schengen area.
Full implementation of the system is scheduled to begin in April next year./Periscopi/
