An Albanian family was attacked in Zurich, Switzerland, on Saturday evening, following the preliminary match for the 2026 World football between Serbia and Albania. Albania won the match in Leskovc with a score of 1:0.
The Albanian family, who had come out to celebrate in Zurich Albania's victory, was attacked by Serbian fans, reports “Blic”.
Donika J. had travelled with her husband and ten-year-old daughter to celebrate Albania's victory, and the Mercedes car had placed an Albanian flag.
In Schwanmendingen, near a bar, the car suddenly met in a crowd, including fans of Serbia.
“Inevitably, a young man ran toward our car and broke our front window with a strong object, perhaps a chain or a belt. The pieces of glass flew into the back seat, where our daughter,”, shows Donika.
She says she was sitting in the passenger seat and the attacker hit the car window at the height of her head.
The incident hit the family hard.
“The blast was so strong that we were all shocked”, she relates, as she starts to cry.
The friend of the attack is still deep.
I had imagined that something like this could happen in Switzerland”, she says. I can't think of anything that terrible happened”.
She had immediately called the police. Zurich police indicated they received at least one report of a damaged car.
There were reports on Saturday night of unrest.
It's not the first time police were called to Weberlandstrasse because of an incident. There had been reports of riots in the streets even during the first match between Albania and Serbia in June, which ended without goals.
Even in Luzern on Saturday, provocations and physical violence were reported among groups after the match between Serbia and Albania.
Football celebratory fans also caused significant disruptions of traffic in the city.
Some roads were temporarily closed.
“was issued a total of 50 fines and some people were punished for various violations of the field traffic law”, Lucerni Police announced on Monday. /Periscopi/
