He's under 24-hour protection from two armed officers, the only people in prison allowed to carry weapons, which has angered the staff, Telegrafi reports, the Periscope broadcast.
Because of added security and a private cell, Sarcozy holds about four times more space than ordinary prisoners, even though prison is already very crowded.
Otherwise, the 70-year-old was sentenced to five years in prison for criminal conspiracy in a complex issue allegedly involving the former Libyan regime of Muammar Gaddhafi.
Sarkozy had demanded illegal financing from the late Libyan dictator, Muammar Gaddhafi, to ensure victory in the 2007 presidential elections. /Periscopi/
