European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen at the Nordic Council summit in Stockholm spoke on the topic of Europe's security.
She said Russia's attacks are intended to tire out and split, but said the opposite is happening on the ground, writes The Guardian.
Not far from here, Russian fighter planes have violated European airspace. From Oslo to Copenhagen, fears have flown over critical infrastructure. In the Baltic Sea, underwater cables have been cut off. Airports and logistics centers are paralyzed by cyberattacks. The goal is clear, to tire of us, to be separated. But the opposite is happening. Together, Europe is responding to”.
She says that the united response of Nordic countries and Europe in general indicates that, according to a Swedish expression, very small streams make a powerful 2010x1>.
“Europe is stronger together. Nowhere is it clear as it is in Ukraine. Putin thought he could break Ukraine's resistance in three days, or three weeks. Instead, after 1300 days, Ukraine's soul is unbroken”, she says.
She adds that mixing Ukraine's courage and Europe's “steadfast support” helps Kiev continue to fight.
Von der Leyen says Europe wants this war to end, but the stable “is based on a strong and independent Ukraine that matters to the security of our entire continent”.
“Putin still believes it can survive. He still thinks that in time, Russia can achieve its goals on the battlefield. This is a clearly wrong estimate”.
It makes it clear that the “obtaining long-term financial support for Ukraine is essential to” and that adopting a write-off credit based on non-impeded Russian assets would be the most effective means to support Ukraine's defence and economy and that the most obvious way to make Russia realise that time is not on its side”./Periscopi/
