RTK Union: If salaries fail to reach workers within deadline, measures will be taken

The RTK Workers' Union has indicated that unless salaries are executed within the legal deadline -- from November 1st to November 5th -- they will take immediate measures, with public attitudes, union actions and legal steps. The submitted response reportedly addresses the RTK management and board and that the measures they warned them would take place to protect workers' rights and the functioning of the public information institution, RTK.
This union requires responsibility, immediate response, and institutional co-ordination to resolve this situation, which it calls grave and unacceptable.
“It is vital that urgent financial solutions be found, whether through co-operation with banks, opening a temporary overdraft, or any other possible mechanism, so that workers will not be left without salaries”, the statement said.
SPARTK claims it also calls on the incumbent government to act immediately, as it did in August, when it allocated 2.5m euros to ensure RTK's functioning.
This intervention is necessary to prevent social and institutional consequences that may cause lack of wages. It is disturbing and unacceptable that the only public medium in Kosovo is being left without a budget, while on the other side the programme, broadcasting and functioning full RTK's, as well as the livelihood of over 700 families dependent on this institution”, is said in response.
The union adds that at a time when the state's claim is not being declared for salary increases, in RTK not only has there been no increase, but there is no budget enough for salaries either: the “RTK workers are not asking for privileges, but only the salary that is legally due them and that should be executed by”.
Days ago, the union has also urgently demanded from the Kosovo Assembly to intervene to secure budget access for the public broadcaster. In its request to MPs, this union said it must avoid repeating the August situation, when workers were left without pay and RTK's functioning was jeopardised. /Periscope/
