Kosovo “Determination” of foreign prisons and asylum centres- Kurt makes an offer to the British themselves to help “

The issue of illegal immigrants is a theme that has turned into a problem for the old continent, Europe. The most affected countries are the more developed countries in terms of economy, education and health, and other areas. Among them is the United Kingdom. For this latter, Reuters in a first article some [...]
Thus, Prime Minister Starmer has turned its attention to third countries for the establishment of “returns centres”, where asylum seekers are supposed to be accommodated. The British government's own leader, as announced months earlier, had claimed to have talked to “a number of countries” for the establishment of “return centres”.
Among the countries allegedly part of the discussion is Kosovo.
To the latter yesterday, incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti confirmed it. The government chief, who is now without full mandate, offered Britain that Kosovo build such a centre for asylum seekers.
We want to help the United Kingdom. We view this as a friendly and political task. We have limited capacities, but we still want to help, and there is currently regular communication between our teams of state officials from our Ministry of Internal Affairs and our lawyers, to see how this can be accomplished peacefully and favorably between both sides”, Kurti says,i Times.
Kurti estimated that we have duty to help Britain because it has helped Kosovo a lot.
We want support to be mainly in the security field whether through strategic agreements or through equipment and projects that we can do together. Our teams are working on this, and I think there will be a successful outcome. Of course, we want to benefit as a state, but above all, we consider it our duty to help you, because you helped us a lot, and we will never forget this”, he stressed.
Options for such a centre have also been seen in Albania. Unlike Kurti, however, Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected such a thing.
Rama had said that “5 years ago simply would not be imagined... that Britain would seek places to dump migrants,”, Rama said.
Rama also, in a report of Politicos, confirmed at the time that Albania will not be part of this scheme, since “we are loyal to our marriage to Italy.
Regarding a possibility of building a prison in Kosovo, Belgium has also been rumoured by another state.
Just days ago Belgian Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden and Minister of Asylum and Migration Anneleen Van Bossuyt stayed in Kosovo, where they met with President Vjosa Osmani.
For this visit, it was reported that Belgium is considering the possibility of building or renting a prison outside its territory, mentioning Kosovo.
Although at the Osman meeting, at least in the news mention, according to Radio Free Europe sources, the issue was briefly mentioned by Belgian officials “without any detailed discussion by the Kosovar side”.
In addition, there is Denmark, which is already in the phase of realising such an agreement with Kosovo. In fact, in May last year, the government announced it has adopted the same Bill for the ratification of a Treaty, which had reached Denmark for housing in Kosovo prison of prisoners from Denmark, several days after the Parliament's failure to ratify it.
The key issue addressed in this bill is ratification of the Treaty between the Republic of Kosovo and Denmark's Kingdom for the exploitation of the Correcting Institute in Gjilan in order to execute Danish sentences”, the government said in a media communiqué.
Kosovo acknowledges Belgium has expressed interest in exploiting its prisons
In June of this year, it even became known that the first prisoners from the Danish state are expected to be transferred to the prison in Gjilan in the first part of 2017.
So they have confirmed from the Danish Prison Service for Radio Free Europe, from which it is also stressed that Kosovo institutions have submitted specific requirements for the renovation and adaptation of Gjilan prison.
“... including a new building for employment and new facilities for visitors. We expect the job to start this summer, and during the first half of 2027, the prison is expected to be used”, the Danish Prison Service had said. /Periscopi/
