At the meeting held in Dallas, Shaip Kamberi has raised concerns about the situation of Albanians in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja, stressing that systematic discrimination, militantisation of the area, and equipment of addresses are jeopardising their political and social existence in Serbia.
The position of Albanians in the Valley remains difficult. Serbia is not implementing agreements signed since the 2001 Framework Agreement. Meanwhile, the equipment of addresses is being used as an administrative tool for erasing Albanians from civil records”, Kamberi stressed.
He has called for more intensive US commitment to the protection of Albanian rights, through monitoring the situation and institutional support, adding that “the same standards Serbia requires for Serbs in Kosovo should be applied to Albanians in Serbia” as well.
Kamberi has thanked the U.S. Congressman for the opening and understanding shown on the Valley issue, stressing that the prosecution for equality and justice will continue in close co-operation with American partners.
