A programme of support has been launched in Ireland for artists, designers, musicians and other creative professionals, who are taking 1,500 euros a month just to do what they want to create freely, without financial pressures.
Launched in 2022, the initiative currently supports about 2,000 creative artists and professionals, each of whom receives 325 euros a week with no restrictions on how to spend.
This support does not require reports, deadlines or other obligations, giving artists the opportunity to focus fully on their art.
The Irish government explains that art is an important pillar to the mental health of the population, while creativity is a key engine for the country's cultural and economic development.
The program has found great support, with thousands of artists already part of it and continue to create without the daily stress of living.
Reports suggest the experiment is successful. Government data published in May 2025 found that beneficiaries reported lower levels of stress, improved mental health and greater creative productivity.
Many said that income allowed them to concentrate on their full - time trade and invest in new projects.
This model is an inspiring example of how a state can invest in the artistic potential of the community and improve the quality of life for the creators. /Periscope/
