This, according to INSTAT, which has published the results of the Revenue and Life Level Survey, where it stipulates that the poverty limit for one person in our country has increased from 2,620 euros annually to 2023 to 3,240 euros annually in 2024.
However, the risk of poverty in Albania dropped to 19.2 percent last year, marking a slight decline compared to 2023.
This is particularly attributed to growth of 23 percent of the average monthly income per capita, which reached over 510 euros.
“20% of the rich today receive 5 times more income than 20% of the poorest. For clarification, if we remove from the current 19% of the poorest structure, this automatically amounts to 40%. 40% of Albania today is poor”, sociologist Iris Damamo said.
Inequality in income distribution has declined easily. Material and social deprivation has also dropped to 32.8 percent, while about 40 percent of the population continue to be endangered by social exclusion.
A significant part, those not considered poor, belong to the two most in need, economic aid and pension categories. There should be dignified packages of such individuals, while there are protective packages for such individuals not to fall to the poverty line. This is the biggest alarm”, clarifys sociologisty.
