According to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, two men aboard the ship were killed. No American forces were hurt.
The ship was known for American intelligence and was believed to carry drugs along a known route of trafficking in international waters, Hegseth added.
The attack marks the attacks of eight Americans against vessels suspected of drugs since 2 September, but the first in the Pacific.
The footage of the attack seems to indicate a long ship with blue speed moving through the water before being hit by an American ordinance.
“Narco-terrorists aiming to bring positions on our shores will find no safe haven anywhere in our hemisphere,” wrote Hegseth on X. As Al Qaeda makes war against our homeland, these cartels are fighting against our border and our people. ”
“There will be no refuge or forgiveness alone for justice,” he added.
In a recently released memo sent to American lawmakers, the Trump administration said it had determined it was involved in a “international armed conflict” with drug trafficking organisations.
At least 34 people have been killed in American attacks on suspected drug ships, including a recent attack on a semi-infertile ship in the Caribbean.
