For the second round of mayoral elections, expected to be held on November 9th, there will be no new process of voter registration outside Kosovo. In the second round of local elections, in those municipalities to be held, voting outside Kosovo through mail will be organised only for citizens who have registered from July 23rd to August 29th.
According to still non-convincing data, the second round of mayoral elections will be held in 18 municipalities, meanwhile, the number of voters outside Kosovo belonging only to these municipalities is 29,712.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has told Kosova Preris that this is an issue regulated with the CEC Election Order for registration and voting outside Kosovo.
“In the second round of municipal mayors' elections, eligible outside Kosovo will have only voters successfully registered during the first round application period and only for municipalities where the second round will be held. A new period of voter registration abroad will not be opened, as the same voter list approved earlier will be used. The total number of citizens registered to vote from outside Kosovo in the first round is 43,933. This number will bring down registered voters to municipalities in which there will be second round”, he said.
Even for the second round, Elesi said the CEC would make sure that registered voters outside Kosovo send the package with a ballot through mail.
“As in the first round, even this time, the CEC will make sure that, Kosovo citizens who have already registered to vote by mail from abroad, send through the ballot package mail. This cost will be covered by the CEC. Meanwhile, the voter's job is to send the ballot package to any of the mailboxes that have been opened in 22 different states of the world and to Kosovo”, Elez said.
According to the CEC, mail boxes are functional in these countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Canada, Kosovo, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the United Kingdom, Norway, the United States, Albania, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey and Switzerland. So far, according to non-final results, the second round of elections will be organised in 18 municipalities, which have different numbers of voters outside Kosovo registered for voting via mail: Gjakova (3,150), Gjilan (2,066), Dragash (2,776), Kacanik (1,149), Cline (2,229), Fushe Kosova (490), South Mitrovica (1,186), Obilic (221), Rahovec (1,902), Peja (1,897), Pristina (1,715), Prizren (2,866), Suhareka (3,325), Year (1,980), Vushtrri (1,02), Junik (1,344), Mamusha (357), and Kkolo (39). /Periscopi/
