Syria has become the 120th state to have recognised Kosovo as a state. Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has announced that on Wednesday in Riyadh they have reached agreement through which the Arab Republic of Syria has recognised the Republic of Kosovo, reports Periscope.
Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspore has also confirmed the recognition of Kosovo's independence.
“In this context, the Arab Republic of Syria announces the official recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, based on its strong belief in the right of peoples to determine their destiny and its commitment to strengthening the principles of peace and stability in the Balkans and in the world”, the report says.
Declaration:
In Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a trilate meeting was held between the Arab Republic of Syria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Kosovo. Discussions focused on ways to deepen bilateral relations and understanding, including the issue of mutual recognition and opening prospects for bilateral co-operation.
In this context, the Arab Republic of Syria announces the official recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, based on its strong belief in the right of people to determine their destiny and its commitment to strengthening the principles of peace and stability in the Balkans and the world.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora emphasises that this location takes place within the framework of Syria's foreign policy, aimed at expanding bridges of co-operation and opening with friendly countries in a way that serves common interests and strengthens relations of friendship among peoples.
Syria's Arab Republic also expresses its deep gratitude for the efforts of the Saudi Arabia Kingdom and its role in approaching views and supporting dialogue and understanding, which has contributed to the creation of conditions appropriate for making that decision.
Damascus looks forward to establishing diplomatic relations with the Republic of Kosovo as soon as possible and developing bilateral co-operation in the political, economic and cultural areas, in a way that serves the common interests of both countries and friendly peoples.
