Demosthenous was shot before 10: 00 a.m. near his home in Ayios Athanassios district. According to police sources, his path was stopped by a van, after which a person on a motorcycle fired on him.
A burnt van that matches the description was soon found in the Yermasoia area.
A Dramatic Rescue Efforts
After the shooting, the victim's son tried to get him to the hospital urgently, but on the way he had a car accident on the highway. He got out of the vehicle, stopped another car, and asked the driver to take him to the hospital. Despite the rapid reaction, Demosthenous could not be saved, and doctors at Limassol General Hospital confirmed his death.
Who was Stavros Demosthenous?
Demosthenous was a prominent figure in football circles. Besides managing Carmiiotisa FC, he was also the former president of the first division club Aris. Several months ago, he was named a potential candidate for the presidency of the Cyprus Football Association, but in the end he did not run.
At the time, he said the federation needed basic “changes and new faces”.
The match between Carmiiotis and Asil Lysi, which was scheduled to take place Friday, was postponed. Besides football, Demosthenous also sold luxury cars used through his Demcars company.
