A new political scandal is shaking the U.S. Congress after the tragic death of an assistant Republican Congressman from Texas who allegedly had an affair with her boss.
Regina Aviles, 35, the mother of an eight - year - old boy, set herself on fire on September 13th in her backyard at Uvalde, suffering severe burns that took her life the following day in the hospital.
According to numerous sources that spoke of “Daily Mail”, Avires, who served as regional director of Congressman Tony Gonzales since 2021, had begun a romantic relationship with the 43-year-old lawmaker, married and father of six.

Gonzale's office did not deny the connection, despite journalists' repeated requests.
Uvalde police confirmed that the event was recorded by security cameras installed in the victim's house, while the images were sent for expertise at the Texas Public Security Department criminal laboratory, followed by Periscope.

However, authorities have refused to publish the call in 911, police reports and videos of the incident, urging the State Attorney General to keep the materials sealed.
This decision, unusual for such investigations, has raised doubts about political influence and favouring Gonzales, an influential figure in the Uvalde area.

Aviles, known by friends as “Regi”, was separated by husband, Adrian Aviles, but they kept taking care of their little boy together.
She was an active figure in the community and often accompanied Gonzales to public meetings, including Elon Musk's high profile visit to the US-Mexica border in September 2023.
A close source of family said that her husband had discovered the relationship with Gonzales several months before his death, leading to the separation of the couple. /tch
